Date: July 25th and 26th I have put in a lot of homework on this subject taking into account other major flatland contests throughout North America and the necessary low tide to make an event of this magnitude possible. I have set the date for July 25th and 26th, because both these dates fall on a weekend and both have around 7 hours of low tide. I have discussed this topic with several B.C. flatland veterans and they all agree that by making this date know as soon as possible we will allow for other competitions that are not dictated by tides (inland contests: such as the virgin river classic, skimfest, and the chambers creek throwdown) to avoid our set date. The only other major international competition that relies on the tides: the DB Pro/Am takes place in June, so is not in direct conflict with our event. The early announcement of our event in general, will allow the greatest number of sponsored riders to organize their summer and make our event a priority.
Location: White Rock (East Beach), British Columbia, Canada After long discussions with many prominent riders and owners in the B.C. scene I have chosen White Rock Beach as the location for the Canadian Open. The site for the competition is one of the best flatland beaches in the lower mainland; it has an adjacent parking lot, and is visited by hundreds of people during any given weekend of the summer. White Rock lies only 2 miles north of the USA border and only 35 minutes south of the city of Vancouver. This makes it the closest venue possible for those who are driving from flatland scenes like Tacoma, Sacramento, or even Utah. Those who are flying in to Vancouver have direct access through public transit or fellow skimboarders who reside in Vancouver.
Tides: Below is the hourly breakdown for East Beach for the 25th and 26th of july. I have higlighted in red the time periods best suited for the event.
