Contest Format/Judging: The Canadian Open will share a lot of similarities with other flatland competitions that have gone before it. What makes it unique is a few small alterations to the usual, which we believe to be beneficial for riders and spectators alike.

After registration closes on Day 2, the judges will proceed to work out the three heats for each preliminary round (flatland, rail 1, rail2). This process is fairly simple all the rider’s names will go into a hat and the Judges will randomly pick names out creating heats, of approximately 10 riders each. This process will take place three times, creating unique heats for all three rounds of skimboarding.  These heats will be posted prior to the start of round one.

Preliminary Round One: Flatland: This section of the contest is all about what a rider can do with his board and some flat water. We will be running each heat for 15 min. Judges will give point values to the top 5 riders of each heat.

Preliminary Round Two: Rail 1: For this section of the contest, we will place several rails of various natures in a singular pond. All three heats will be run for 15 minutes each. Judges will give point values to the top 5 riders of each heat. Points acquired will be added to those earned in the flatland round.

Preliminary Round Two: Rail 2: The last round before judges cut the field down for the semi finals. 2-3 new rails will be set in to the feature pond. Heats will be run for 15 minutes each. Judges will give point values to the top 5 riders of each heat. Points acquired will be added to those earned in the rail 1 round.

At the completion of the preliminary rounds the judges will calculate the top 25 percent of the total riders by comparing accumulated point values from the preliminary rounds. These riders will be randomly assigned to one of two heats for the semi finals.

Semifinals: Preliminary point values are now void, all riders start from scratch. This section of the event will feature, more challenging rails. Each heat will be given 15 minutes. Judges give point values to the top 5 riders of each heat.

At the completion of the semifinals, judges will cut the field in half by taking only the riders with the highest point values from the two heats of the semi finals and placing them in the finals.

The Finals: The best of the best, take the stage to kill some more rails. 15 minutes long. Judges will collaborate and choose the top 3 riders.

Winner Ceremonies: The top three riders, are presented cold hard cash.
